How they Work - Content
The "Contents Net" application works on a three tiered structure comprising items, categories and rooms.
- Items are the building blocks of the system and represent the individual pieces of equipment and furniture known collectively as your contents (i.e. chairs, tables, clothing, cutlery, refrigerators etc).
- These items are organised into 32 separate categories according to type (i.e. Appliances, Audio Visual, Furniture etc).
- Rooms as the name suggests represent the individual rooms that could possibly be present in any home or commercial building.
- In the "Contents Net" application there are a total of 38 different room types, split into 22 different bedroom configurations and 16 other room types (i.e. Bathroom, Dining, Kitchen etc).
- Each room contains a variety of items from different categories.
The type of room determines which items are included. For example a Dining room would include items such as a table, chairs, buffet unit, framed prints etc. An Office would include items such as a desk, clerical and visitor chairs, filing cabinets, bookcases etc.
The process starts with the user being asked a series of simple questions, these questions include:-
- What quantity of home contents do you have?
- What standard of home contents do you have?
- How many bedrooms do you have?
- What people occupy the home?
- What other rooms do you have in your home?
- What special items do you have in your home?
What quantity of home contents do you have?
The quantity and variety of items contained in each room varies according to the size of the room and the degree to which each room has been furnished.
Each room type caters for 3 statistical quantities of home contents:-
- Minimal ? A basic level of home contents reflecting either a small room or a minimalist approach to home furnishing.
- Average ? As the name suggests represents an average level of home contents.
- Extensive ? A high level of home contents reflecting either a large room or an above average level of home furnishings.
What standard of home contents do you have?
Each item caters for 3 statistical pricing grades:-
- Average ? Lowest priced grade of home contents (i.e. Big W, Freedom, Ikea, Target)
- Quality ? Above average priced grade of home contents (i.e. David Jones, Myers, Specialty stores)
- Prestige ? Highest priced grade of home contents (i.e. Designer Stores)
How many bedrooms do you have?
The number of bedrooms and importantly who occupies those rooms is an important factor in the accurate calculation of the replacement price of your home contents. This is because of the high level of clothing and personal effects that are present in these types of rooms.
For each bedroom, users are asked to indicate those people who inhabit the room, selecting from the following:-
- Adult female (<19 years of age)
- Adult male (<19 years of age)
- Teen female (13 to 19 years of age)
- Teen male (13 to 19 years of age)
- Child (female or male; 4 to 12 years of age)
- Baby (female or male; 0 to 3 years of age)
What other rooms do you have in your home?
In addition to bedrooms, users are asked to select the number and type of other rooms present in the home, selecting from the following:-
- Bathroom
- Ensuite
- Separate Toilet
- Kitchen
- Laundry
- Entry/Foyer
- Dining
- Living/Lounge
- Family
- Games/Rumpus
- Sunroom
- Study/Home Office
- Billiard
- Garage/Storage/Workshop
- Garden Shed
- Patio/Balcony/Deck/Verandah
- Pool Area
Having answered these questions "Contents Net" then generates a suggested home contents replacement price for the home.
The price for each room type has been determined by a statistical analysis that determines the typical items and quantities that are contained within each room type. Items from each room are then combined together to provide a master list of all items contained within the home.
To view and/or adjust this information users are then able to enter each category type by clicking on the category name. This gives the user access to the items and the quantities of those items that are contained within the contents estimate.
